The Next DS Hire (2024)

New Data Science Hire (Paul Cannon)

Paul Cannon took a considerable risk in 2021 by taking a temporary visiting faculty position. He started a three-year clock to decide whether he wanted to try teaching as a permanent career or return to industry. BYU-I and the Data Science program are excited that he chose to stay. He had to compete with two other high-quality candidates. Paul’s background in Ag statistics and consulting brings strength to our program.

Course Updates

The Computer Science and Engineering Department, in collaboration with the Data Science Program, is updating its database (SQL) courses. Their new course prefix is ITM. We will move to ITM 220 SQL as our first SQL course of the major. We will also include ITM 327: Data Warehousing in our major. The DS program will lead the development of this updated course. We advise students not to take CIT 111. Your faculty mentor can make the substitution for your program if it requires CIT 111.
